Dupioni – Dupioni is silk that is formed when two silkworms spin a single cocoon or when they spin their cocoons too close together. The silk in these cocoons is tangled and the filament is rough and uneven. Therefore, irregularity in weight sometimes referred to as banding or shading is characteristic of dupioni silk fabric. Little slubs which occasionally appear in dupioni silk fabric are part of the original cocoon of the silk worm. These characteristics are inherent to dupioni silk fabric and should not be considered defects in weaving. Dupioni is easy to dye so fabrics are often brightly colored. Intex dupioni is an elegant fabric with a crisp hand and a dull luster.
Shantung – A plain weave fabric that was first woven in the province of Shantung, China from hand reeled silk. Intex’s version is made with fine warp yarns which gives the fabric a firm semi-crisp hand. The fabric has beautiful luster and drapes wonderfully. There will be very slight irregularities such as small slubs and banding.
Taffeta – Silk Taffeta is one of the oldest luxury fabrics, woven in the early part of the third century by the Persians, who called it “taftah” or “taftan.” Intex’s version is a fine, smooth, tightly woven fabric, made with a plain weave, fine warp yarns and heavier filling yarns. The fabric is flat, with a distinctive rustle and a dull luster. It comes in different weights and a beautiful range of colors.
Hand-woven – Coarsely woven fabric made in India on small, hand operated looms using handspun silk yarn. The yarn is thick and irregular and the weave is usually a loose plain weave or basket weave. Intex offers an array of hand-woven silk fabrics.
Organza – A very sheer, crisp fabric made with a loose plain weave and tightly twisted yarns. It is fine to lightweight, with a delicate hand and a flat, smooth texture. Intex offers plain organza as well as embroideries on organza grounds.
Jacquard – This smooth, elegant fabric, made on a jacquard loom, has a complex woven design. The satin and crepe combination is used to form a lustrous and dull pattern that reverses itself on the flip side. Intex jacquards range from 100% silk to silk-linen blends.
Embroideries – Intex provides a range of embroideries from classic to contemporary all beautifully crafted on dupioni, shantung, taffeta or organza grounds. Intex is also pleased to provide beautiful linen embroideries in our line of fabrics.
Silk Satin – This is our most luxurious fabric. A beautiful fabric with incredible luster
Silk-Linen – Silk fabric blended with linen. This light to medium weight fabric has a nice texture and wonderful hand.
Please be aware that silk is a natural product and therefore will always have a small amount of natural flaws. Dye lot can vary from time to time and Intex cannot guarantee an exact color match. A cutting for approval (CFA) is recommended to ensure color matching. |
